Martha or Mary?

reflection on Luke 10:38-42

(Christ in the House of Martha and Mary, Johannes Vermeer, 1655)

Mary, Mary, we will bury
All our hidden idols here.

As we listen, God will christen
Every moment, every tear.

He may soak us, sometimes poke us,
Pilgrims led by holy fear.

We’ll still follow when life’s hollow
And the way may seem unclear.

Mary, Mary, we will tarry─
We will listen till we hear.
